While all of us hold our breath for Sony’s next-gen console, we’re going to have to put up with constant revisions and milking of the here and now.
Today, Eurogamer discovered a new 4000-series PlayStation SKU via an FCC filing. The SKU, CECH-4001x, is noteworthy seeing as the current generation PlayStation carriers a 3xxx moniker while the original “fat” model is of the 2xxx variety.
The internal changes are believed to be relatively minor; at most we’re almost certainly dealing with simple components shrinking in size, thereby making Sony’s costs associated with manufacturing and shipping the PlayStation lower, as well as making overall power consumption of the consoler lower, too.
And so here we wait, impatiently tapping our fingers, hoping Sony will tip us off as to what/when the next-gen PlayStation will drop.
