RIM calls for BlackBerry app developers to a hackathon
If you’re a Filipino BlackBerry app developer and want to make your mark on the BlackBerry platform, or learn from other developers, RIM is inviting you to PinoyBBDev Hackathon 2012, a coding session to be held for 35 hours straight, whose goal is to turn application ideas into reality.
The PinoyBBDev Hackathon 2012 is open not only to BB app developers but also developers from other platforms. It will be held on August 4 and 5 at the Alphaland Southgate Mall, Pasong Tamo Extension corner EDSA, Makati City.
So why do you want to develop a BlackBerry app? According to the Yankee Research Group, BlackBerry App World saw more paid downloads per month than the Android market, while Vision Mobile has found that BlackBerry apps generate 40% more revenue for developers than Android apps. BlackBerry may have lesser users than Android or iOS but majority of the users have the spending capability to buy quality apps.
A key focus of the Hackathon will be on technologies supported by the BlackBerry® PlayBook™ and BlackBerry® 10, the next generation platform for BlackBerry devices:
- Adobe AIR using ActionScript, Flash or Flex
- Android – repackage your Android apps for BlackBerry PlayBook and BlackBerry 10 using Java Android Runtime
- Native with options to use Native SDK using C/C++/OpenGL, or Cascades (C++/Qt)
- WebWorks using HTML5, CSS & Javascript
Supported by Research In Motion (RIM), these events are organized by the Philippine BlackBerry Developer Group(pinoyBBdev), whose aim is to provide information about the latest in developing for the BlackBerry platform.
