The success of the Amazon Kindle Fire and the different screen size availability of Samsung Galaxy Tab has not affected the sales of Apple’s iPad. Apple’s iPad cornered 69.6% of the market and this is up 44.1% from the first quarter.

Tab Market in Q2

According to the numbers, Apple moved some 17 million iPads in the 2nd quarter. Samsung could only manage to move 2.25 million units of the Galaxy in that same period while Amazon moved 1.02 million. This left Samsung with 9.2% of the market although this is up 2.8% from the 1st quarter. Amazon had 4.2% and was down from the 13.3% of the previous quarter.

ASUS and Barnes & Noble has 2.8% and 1.9% of the global market respectively. Apple is said to be making the right moves as it rebuilds and consolidates on its position in the tablet market. The director of tablet and monitor research in HIS, Rhoda Alexander was reported to have said that their coming introduction of the 7-inch version of the iPad in September. She said that they are sending a clear message that they plan to dominate this market for a long time.

It is clear that their major tablet competitors in Google and Microsoft will be looking to upstage them anytime soon. They will be looking to challenge them in the second half of the year but Apple seems to be ready for whatever they might be bringing. Their success seems strongly linked to the Apple’s iPad brand and it’s across the globe recognition.

Alexander went on to say that competing companies must realize that customers are not just buying a piece of hardware but the complete package which includes user experience. She also said that users are interested in having that single experience across multiple devices and this is something that Apple provides.
