DLP used to create a true volumetric display prototype

The IEEE Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) Society have developed a volumetric display using DLP projectors. This is a DLP/Helix system (explained later) which is currently monochrome only, and has a low refresh rate. In the future they hope to enhance the refresh rate and add color.

IEE DLP/Helix system design

The new DLP/Helix system records 3D object information by projecting light out of source which is reflected by a polarizing beam splitter cube towards a spatial light modulator (SLM), whose image patterns are generated by a host personal computer (PC).
