I had reviewed the Cleartrip mobile website a few weeks back and was impressed by it. The company had said that they would be releasing an iOS app soon. Well, they have released the iOS app today and I went over and downloaded it. The app is free and is closely related to Cleartrip’s mobile website in terms of design and UI.
The start screen:
When you start the app for the first time it asks you for 2 permissions. The first is for ‘push notifications’ and the second one is to use your ‘location’.
Before you go to the app, it shows you what every feature does. I think this is awesome as it helps you get oriented to the UI and design immediately without having to look around for options. However, the UI is pretty easy to figure out on its own but it is a nice touch.
Flights:
The iOS app only allows you to book Flights in India (as of now) compared to the mobile site which also allows you to book hotels and train tickets (provided you have a valid IRCTC account). They will roll out these features soon.
Booking flights on the iOS app is exactly the same as the mobile website. It has a two-pane view for round trips which improves the comprehension on the part of the user.
Access to booked Trips:
The iOS app allows you to access all your previous bookings done through Cleartrip provided you key in your Cleartrip account details. It doesn’t matter if you have booked those previous trips from the mobile website, the app or from the desktop website.
Payments using Expressway:
The payment options are easy to use and with the addition of Cleartrip’s own ‘Expressway’ payment service, it becomes easier for frequent travelers. You have to set up your expressway account using your Cleartrip account and then add your card/bank details. Once set up, you will be able to pay for your trips with one click. The expressway account is synced across all platforms. The Expressway can be set up via this app itself. The app also allows you to redeem coupon codes. Pretty sweet!
Final Thoughts:
The app is super easy to use and sports a very good design in terms of the booking flow. The Expressway service is a very helpful add on. Push notifications are important if you busy and the app will alert you with any updates having to do with your booked flight. The search for flights is fairly decent but takes a little longer on the iOS app as compared to the mobile web app. Overall, the experience is quite good. It is definitely recommended for any person with an iPhone.
I am little surprised that Cleartrip debuted their iOS app earlier than Android since Google’s OS has been steadily climbing the adoption charts in the country. I hope it is in the pipeline.
