Big Story Weather from September 18: Fire danger continued through the Northern Plains due to the dry and windy conditions. We also saw a few snowflakes in the upper parts of Michigan. Frost and freeze conditions continued through the Great Lakes region and Northern Plains. Severe weather yesterday was found all up and down the eastern seaboard with well over 90 wind damage reports from Florida northward into the big Metropolitan cities along the east coast such as New York, Baltimore and others. The heat and dry conditions continued out west as well.
Weather Outlook September 19: High pressure will build in over the Southeast bringing very nice weather conditions from Baltimore southward into Mobile as high temps will be in the lower 60’s for Baltimore to the lower 80’s along the Gulf Coast. Low pressure moving through the Northern Plains will bring with it a few isolated thunderstorms to the Kansas City area along with showers into the Great Lakes region. Temps in the Kansas City area will hit the lower 70’s. The west will have another dry and mild day as temps hit the mid 80’ and the upper 70’s to lower 80’s for Portland.
International Outlook: High pressure will bring nice conditions to both Korea and Japan creating partly cloudy skies in the region. A tad bit of an increase to the monsoonal moisture back over India and Pakistan. High pressure will control the weather form Eastern and Western Europe making for a partly cloudy day. London may stay far enough south of the frontal boundary allowing for a mostly cloudy day. Low pressure moving through the southern tip of South America will bring with it showers to the region. High pressure will bring nice weather to the majority of Australia with the exception being near Perth where a frontal boundary will slowly move into the area bringing showers to the region.
Tropical Update:
Atlantic Basin: Tropical Storm Nadine continues to turn out towards the Azores islands with estimated winds near 45kts and a pressure of 993mb. Elsewhere the Atlantic is quite today.
Eastern Pacific: Lane ran into some very cold waters and drier air leaving it down to nothing more than a depression this morning with winds around 30kts and pressure of 1009mb.
Western Pacific: 92W is still a concern with winds this morning around 15kts and a pressure of 1010mb.
ENSO Watch: This shift is beginning to happen as we are now in the United States beginning to see more moisture start flowing in from the Southern branch of the jetstream.
Five day storm Outlook for September 19-23:
Baltimore MD: A pretty tranquil time after yesterday with no major impacts forecasted until the 22nd then there will be a slight chance for storms.
Mobile AL: High pressure will keep the weather very nice and not allow for any storms.
Kansas City MO: A few thunderstorms possible today but should not cause any major impacts, and the rest of the week looks good.
Denver CO: A quiet week ahead with cooler conditions – no storms expected.
Portland OR: A warm and dry period ahead keeping the moisture absent from the forecast, expecting no major impacts.
Climate Watch for the period of September 14-18:
Baltimore MD: The period started with temps about 3 degrees above normal, followed by a cool down with temps falling to around 2-4 below average and then a slight warm up on the 18th near 2 degrees.
Mobile AL: The period started warm with temps running about 1-2 degrees above average, followed by cooler conditions of temps 5-9 degrees below.
Kansas City MO: Temps have been below average anywhere from 5-9 degrees.
Denver CO: A cold start on the 14th with temps about 2 degrees below followed by a two day warm up with temps 8 degrees above and then a very cold day with temps about 13 degrees below average.
Portland OR: Temps have been warm through the entire period ranging from 6-12 degrees above average.
Major Weather Impacts Discussion for September 19, 2012:
Day 1-3: Stationary boundary over southern Florida will bring thunderstorms to the region, while high pressure will control the weather for the Southeast northward into the Northeast bringing cool temps. A fast moving clipper system will move through the Northern plains today and then on to the Northeast over the next few days.
Day 4-7: High pressure will bring cooler conditions to the Northern Plains eastward into the Northeast and also into the Southeast, warm and dry weather will prevail in the West.
Day 8-12: A frontal boundary system will move out of the Southwest region and into the Southern Plains bringing with it the chance for some thunderstorms.
Day 13-15: Another low pressure area will move off the Mexican coast towards the Gulf of Mexico bringing with it heavy rain towards the Northern Gulf Coast region.
Today’s Spotlight City Forecast is for Biloxi Mississippi
Today: Partly Cloudy and mild with high temps in the lower 80’s under high pressure, overnight lows will be around 59F. Winds today will be light from the Northeast around 5-10mph.
Thursday: Partly Cloudy and nice with high temps in the mid 80’s, look for overnight lows to be in the mid 60’s. Winds will be from the Northeast at 2-7mph.
Friday: Another nice day with partly cloudy skies and high temps in the upper 80’s along with overnight lows in the upper 60’s.
The Weekend: A nice weekend in store as temps remain in the upper 90’s to lower 80’s with light winds.

Wind Energy: The two places for the best wind energy today are the Great Lakes and Northeast as both regions will see a nice northwesterly push move through brining a good force of winds to the area.
