After unveiling the new RAZR line just a couple short weeks ago Motorola was at it again today in the UK taking the wraps off of their latest RAZR, the RAZR i. On the outside it looks much the same as the RAZR M. But inside is where the real differences lie, for Motorola and Intel teamed up to slap a Medfield (single-core) processor inside this beast and clocked it at a fat 2 GHz. Outside of the processor, specs are more inline with your average higher end device and include a 4.3″ 540 x 960 “almost edge-to-edge” AMOLED display, 2,000 mAh battery, 1 GB of RAM (plus 5 GB of user accessible storage with up to 32 GB of additional storage provided by removable SD card), 8-megapixel rear shooter (plus VGA front-facing camera), and the same mostly hands off “skin” that the other new RAZR devices feature. Sorry, Europeans. The RAZR i is all HSPA+ (read: no LTE) for now. Still, when on a tower that isn’t completely swamped with humans, HSPA is more than able to keep up with low-end LTE speeds. Food for thought.
We’ll note that the skin in particular is indeed pretty darn close to stock – which is a relief. We’re growing tired of both the appearance of the ever-shifting Touch Wiz and Sense UI and find Motorola’s once atrocious UI design finally settling into something we wouldn’t mind using on a daily basis.
Motorola may have been off our radar for a bit. But the combination of subtly yet tastefully updated hardware design complete with specs hitting all the right notes and a newer, cleaner UI mean we’re seriously eyeing them as a legitimate contender again. Like what you see?
