The Lumia 800/900 successors have quite a bit to live up to. The first-gen Windows Phone devices from Nokia were received rather well by the press, though, consumers haven’t been quite as welcoming. But the Finnish company’s second-gen Windows Phone devices designed to showcase the new and upcoming Windows Phone 8 take the same great design from the Lumia 800/900 and pump up the power within while also adding a decent helping of software perks, too.
Lumia 920
The design is largely borrowed from the Lumia 800/900. And that’s ok. Like Apple reuses good design, Nokia is too albeit this time around there’s plenty more power under the hood as the spec sheet will show.
The most unique aspect of the new flagship Lumia 920, however, is the “floating lens” of sorts that according to Nokia, is very similar to the optical image stabilization found in a normal camera. Pretty much all other smartphone’s don’t have said feature or rely on a form of digital image stabilization. And like its digital zoom counterpart, digital image stabilization is never as good as the real thing.
The PureMotion HD+ display is the smoothest, blur-free display especially where scrolling is concerned (again, Nokia’s words). During the live webcast it certain looked impressive.
Also worth noting, Nokia has partnered up with Virgin Atlantic and Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf to install wireless charging plates on their tables. (Hopefully such partnerships kickstart a wireless charging fun fest that sees more retailers and businesses integrating charging plates for wireless charging devices.)
And now for the 820…
Lumia 820
We’re waiting to find out if the battery in the 820 is the same size as the 920 as well as release/pricing info for both. Stay tuned…
