(Before It's News)

The project of One Laptop per Child that is powered by OLPC, the Linux-based operating system has brought about a significant update while its main focus being on the XO-4 Touch devices.

WebKit and DisplayLink

The update of version 12.1.0 which was launched recently has included in it, a built-in feature of text-to-speech that can vocalize a text when selected. This support is really useful for those students who find it easy to speak a language than reading it.

The OLPC operating system has also added a support for USB DisplayLinkvideo adapters. Other such upgrades to the operating system include a transition from the Mozilla’s web browser to the Webkit that collaborates with Google Chrome and Safari. This sudden shift is encouraged by Mozilla’s denial of support to third-party applications and sources have claimed that the Webkit seems to be a better and enhanced option of a web browser. The switch to the Webkit will make it possible for the users to have a much faster browsing experience from now on.

However it may not be seen as equal to the release of an XO-3 tablet, yet still these upgrades brought by the OLPC OS will be good enough for the users and especially to the students.
