Here is yet another new ultrabook from Asus is goes under the model number of the S56, it is a 15.6 inch version, with a variety of processors and hard drive storage solutions to choose from. The S56 is a true ultrabook, with Intel hardware, solid state drive storage, its thin at just 21 mm, light at 2.3 kilos and as with all ultrabooks, it is fast starting in fact, Asus claim that it will start up from sleep or hibernate in under two seconds allowing the user to get straight to work.
There are plenty of options available for the S56 but as ever we start off with the most important feature, it has a 15.6 inch screen with a 16:9 HD LED Back light display with a 1366 x 768 of pixel resolutions and there is the always handy built in HD Web Camera. As ever it is running Microsoft Genuine Windows 7 Home operating systems from the Premium up to the Ultimate version. It is powered by the latest Intel Core processors with a choice of the i3 3217U, i5 3317U or the i7 3517U version, while it supports the Intel HM76 Express Chipset and video is coming from the NVIDIA GeForce GT 635M graphic card with 2 GB of DDR3 VRAM.
There is up to 8 GB of DDR3 1600 MHz SDRAM available and a huge choice of storage from the 320 GB, 500 GB, 750 GB or the 1 TB of 5400 RPM 2.5″ SATA hard disk drive (HDD), with support from the 24 GB solid state drive (SSD) for Cache only. Networking as normal has the integrated 802.11 b/g/n wireless LAN, Built-in Bluetooth V4.0 (Optional) and the 10/100/1000 Base T Ethernet LAN. There is one fast connecting USB 3.0 port, two standard type USB 2.0 ports, the RJ45 LAN Jack for LAN insert and the all important HDMI out.
Being an ultrabook size matters and the S56 measures up at 38 cm (W) x 26.6 cm (D) x 2.10 cm (H), while it weighs in at just 2.30 kg and that is with the 4 cell 2950 mAh 44 Whrs battery pack installed. Asus has priced the S56 to start at a reasonable $915
