Indian ecommerce hubs are getting innovative with technology and design. From small startups to big enterprises, everyone seems to be cashing on the new internet penetration explosion. Hindrances still remain but the new-gen Indian customer is all set to buy big and spend more. Ecommerce is picking up fast and big companies keep coming out with new and innovative product lines and online shopping forums to reach the customers. Times internet Ltd, which recently ventured into the organic personal healthcare and hygiene products with Satvikshop, that utilizes its famous and efficient two-tier model of ecommerce, rolls out an online video service called BoxTV. It is an online premium content delivery service which lets the users watch premium TV content like shows, movies and short films. It has been launched in India, US and UK on a preliminary basis and company plans to focus on this service to expand its reach.
Times internet has partnered with Hollywood studios and other media services to provide both Indian and international content to Indian viewers in the countries that it has been released in. There is a dual benefit that transpires; International content gets to Indian viewers and Indian regional content in local languages like Telugu, Tamil, Kannada, Marathi and Gujarati gets delivered abroad.
“We will soon have three times more content providers on board as well, apart from the existing ones,” said Satyan Gajwani, the newly appointed CEO of Times internet services. The online content providers include Sony, UTV, Shemaroo, Rajshri, Lehren and Zoom. BoxTV.com currently showcases over 3,500 full-length films, more than 500 short films, and over 2,000 television episodes.
Earlier this year, HP India released its internet TV, which it called the ‘internet TV for the masses’. Google already has its own internet TV service which, unlike BoxTV hosts UGC content. Apple has its own TV service called Apple TV. Competition increases as more and bigger companies keep venturing into this sector but Times internet plans to focus on this service for a long term. The subsidiary of Bennett, Coleman & Co. Ltd, last year was a year of collaborations and a plethora of product launches.
The company is also known for its innovative business style. BoxTV follows the freemium model which makes it possible for the company to cut down prices for subscriptions. Indian subscriptions start at Rs 199 per month, while users in US and UK would need to shell out $4.99 and £4.99 per month, respectively.
