Apple Finally Announces The New iPad Mini

For the past couple of months the rumor mill has been abuzz with speculation about the iPad Mini. The Cupertino California based company was expected to release this device almost two years back. Since then we have heard countless rumors about it and have been treated to various part leaks. Apple had kept itself tight lipped about the existence of this device, until last week when it sent out invites for a special media event on October 23.
Today Apple took center stage at California Theater in San Jose, California and finally announced the new iPad Mini. If the reader has been following up on iPad Mini related rumors and news for quite some time, the device itself and its features will not some as a shock. The rumors have proved to be spot on. iPad Mini has now been unveiled to the world and it does not fail to impress in any way.
iPad Mini Design:
Apple says that making an iPad this small was no small feat. I believe them. The iPad Mini offers the full iPad experience despite being drastically thinner and lighter than a full fledged 9.7 inch iPad. This device is 7.9 inches and its display still offers an impressive resolution of 1024 x 768, similar to that of iPad 2. It is just 7.2 mm thick, making it 23% thinner than the iPad. It weighs only .68 pounds, making it 53% lighter than the iPad.
The iPad Mini has incredible fit and finish, one that befits an Apple product. The nifty little device is fashioned out of a single piece of aluminium, making it Apple’s most advanced unibody construction. Edges on this device have been meticulously measured and diamond-cut to ensure a sleek finish. iPad Mini has a curving back similar to that of fifth generation iPod touch. All of these design attributes together make iPad Mini a desirable product, at the same time keeping it light, thin and easy to hold in just one hand. This new product is being offered in two colors, white and black. The black has same anodized back like iPhone 5 does. It is simply beautiful.
iPad Mini Specifications:
iPad Mini is powered by a dual-core A5 processor. Performance is at par with iPad 2. The front houses a 1.2 megapixel FaceTime HD camera while there is a 5 megapixel iSight camera, 1080p recording compatible, on the back. It has a 7.9-inch (diagonal) LED-backlit Multi-Touch display with IPS technology churning out an impressive 1024 x 768 resolution at 163 pixels per inch. The battery powering this device is the thinnest Apple has made yet. It provides 10 hours of battery life to iPad Mini.
The device comes with the new Lightening dock connector. There is support for 802.11a/b/g/n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 4.0 and LTE support. The cellular model houses a nano SIM tray. A 3.5mm headset jack is present on top of the device. Speaker and microphone are built in.
iPad Mini Price & Availability:
iPad Mini comes with three storage options. 16GB WiFi is priced at $329, 32GB at $429 and 64GB at $529. The WiFi + Cellular models are priced at $459 for 16GB, $559 for 32GB and $659 for 64GB. Apple will start taking iPad Mini pre-orders from October 26. The WiFi models will begin shipping on November 2nd. The cellular + WiFi models will begin shipping two weeks after that.
