Huawei
Mobile junkies such as ourselves fawn over things like fast processors and big, bold displays. And if a listing on Chinese phone manufacturer, Huawei’s site is correct, they will top even the mighty Samsung in display prowess.
The device in question is currently labeled as the Ascend Mate with a monstrous 6.1-inch, 1080p display as well as an in-house 1.8 GHz quad-core processor (K3V3 according to the listing), 2 GB of RAM and a gigantic 4,000 mAh battery. Android 4.1 Jelly Bean with Huawei’s EMUI 1.5 slathered on top is allegedly the OS of choice.
Considering the Galaxy Note II is hardly ergonomic (for most people that is) we find it hard to believe that Huawei is going to have much praise about such things with a 6.1-inch device that is supposed to act as a phone.
Onyx
In other and completely opposite news, a Chinese company by the name of “Onyx” has done the seemingly impossible – developed and built a smartphone with an e-ink display. The benefit of the e-ink display over traditional methods is much better outdoor visibility and insane battery life thanks to the tech’s power sipping nature. But don’t go tossing your current device just yet. While the e-ink phone by Onyx does have a few pluses, display junkies are going to hate the still slow refresh rate and lack of color. Can’t win ‘em all. Video of the e-ink Onyx phone below.
