(Before It's News)

Google has announced a new Chromebook made by Samsung that is sure to hit the sweet spot for many consumers this holiday season. The new Samsung Chromebook will be hitting major U.S. retailers for an astonishingly low price of only $249. One can barely find a Netbook that is used for that price anymore. If it has Chromebook, Google and Samsung in the same sentence we are interested.

The new Chromebook has some pretty stellar specs.

  • 11.6-inch screen
  • 1366 x 768 resolution
  • Weighs just under 2.5 pounds
  • 6.5 hour battery life
  • Samsung Exynos 5250 dual-core Cortex A-15 processor at 1.7GHz
  • 100 GB  Google Drive storage
  • Boots in 10 seconds
  • 16 GB SSD
  • 2GB RAM

Of course this new Chromebook isn’t for hardcore power users or major gamers. The Chromebooks run Chrome OS, which in a nutshell is just like the Chrome browser on your PC. These are designed for web use, Browsing, Streaming, Cloud Storage and Web Apps. You won’t be able to install the latest Call of Duty and sit down and play it on the Chromebook.

I personally had one of the original Chromebooks way back when they first were handing them out. It offered a lot but lacked in other areas. For browsing the web, streaming Netflix, watching movies on the go and writing articles for you guys on the site, it was great. I had a few web app games installed that were cool, but I never found them to be absolutely amazing. It do do its job well and the battery life back then was stellar. We can see a huge potential for Chromebooks in school situations like for high school students and college students. They will be great for people who keep netbooks around with out date OS’s and constant virus issues who primarily just surf the web and watch YouTube videos. I think I might just get one for my wife. She just reads news sites and plays on Facebook. For $249, it is almost a no brainer for her.

What do you guys think? Is this on your Christmas wish list now?
