Amazon Releases First Mobile Game ‘Air Patriots’

Amazon has flown into the iOS mobile gaming device market by releasing the strategy air defense game “Air Patriots.”
The new game is the first mobile-focused game being offered by the online retail giant, and it is available on both Apple iOS and Google Android devices for free.
Amazon made its first in-house game development this summer by launching Amazon Game Studios, with its first game Living Classics being made available on Facebook.
The company said Air Patriots is a “new kind of tower defense game,” allowing players to draw a path for planes to fend off the oncoming franks. The player’s job in the strategy game is to direct the traffic, and set aircraft on course to attack invading tanks.
“When we created Air Patriots we wanted to make a game that was easy and engaging, and the simplicity of drawing paths for planes was something we thought would appeal to players,” Ernie Ramirez, Executive Producer at Amazon Game Studios, said in a press release. “We think customers will find Air Patriots both familiar and fresh, with a degree of challenge that keeps them engaged and enthused to play more.”
The game will be utilizing Amazon Game Circle available on the Kindle Fire to track achievements and high scores. Air Patriots also supports Whispersync, allowing a user to move from one Kindle device to another and pick up where they left off in the game.
Although the app is available for free, Amazon still has every intention of making money from the app with in game purchasing.
“We are very excited to bring Amazon customers Air Patriots today, and Amazon Game Studios looks forward to bringing our fans even more great games in the future,” Ramirez said.
So far, the game on Android has just three out of a five star rating with 24 reviews. The majority of those reviews were either five stars, or one star. A large chunk of the bad reviews is due to the lack of Nexus 7 support.
Users are also complaining about how only a couple of maps can be played without having to purchase more to keep going.
