We know that literally thousands of you picked up the Android 4.2 Keyboard from us
over the last few days. It was pretty sweet, but apparently wasn’t the finished product. We are just now finding this out thanks to
AndroidPolice and their latest informative post about some new goodies they came across. So if you were less than ecstatic about the results from the previous keyboard file, you might want to give the new one from the LG Nexus 4 system dump a whirl instead. We will be unlinking the previous files for this purpose. Have no fear though, because there is a new source for the polished version of the keyboard app out and also the new Android 4.2 clock.
The new files are courtesy of XDA developer Gnufabio. He has ported the Keyboard for Android devices that are sporting 4.0+ and made it available in a flash package. That means that you would need to be able to flash it through a recovery system of your choosing. Since the package was released, Gnufabio has update it. So if you got it a bit early and have seen some Force Close issues, you might want to go try again.
As for the new clock, it is there also. It looks pretty awesome. However, it does have a few issues of its own. Not surprising since none of these things are really supposed to be anywhere else but Android 4.2. That has never stopped many of us from giving it a flash just to see it in person on our screen. The clock file is limited to devices on some sort of Android 4.1 version. No ICS support out there. The dev states that the Clock stopwatch has the wrong layout and will fix it once the apktool updates to support Android 4.2. He also reported back to AP that it works perfect on the Galaxy Nexus, but they had issues with it crashing when accessing the Alarm and there after while running in the background. So there is a chance you could run into some issues as well.
If you aren’t scared and like to take risks, head over to
Gnufabio’s web space page for the files needed. Be sure to make backups before you get flash happy so you don’t end up with some annoying Force Close issue that you can’t stop without a full wipe.
I dug in a little deeper and found a second posting for the Deskclock app from XDA member asdfzz. He also has a zip file along with the standalone APK file for you guys to grab. You should be able to push the deskclock.apk into system/app, set permission and then simply reboot. If you have deskclock.spk already in there, be sure to rename it to deskclock.bak first.
