Facebook to Slow Down After Move to HTTPS [VIDEO]

Facebook will load more slowly than usual for North American users after the company begins to roll out HTTPS to users, a move which backtracks from the speed gained with HTTP service.
While a more secure connection, HTTPS tends to load at slower speeds. Users who have entered credit card information online will be familiar with the lock icon in the browser that denotes the use of an HTTPS connection. (The ‘S’ stands for secure).
The switch was announced last year in a blog post on the company’s website by Facebook’s Alex Rice. “We feel that HTTPS is an essential option to protect the security of Facebook accounts,” he wrote.
