(Before It's News)

A few months after its US release, Asus finally brought the WiFi-only Google Nexus 7 to the country. It’s going to be a 32GB-only affair for the local Nexus 7 which will have a retail price of Php13,995.

Late October, Google announced that they will be removing the 8GB version from the shelves to make way for an HSPA+ version of the Nexus 7. This brought down the price of the 16GB to $199, and the 32GB to $249.

So, does our local pricing sounds fair?

Prior to this, the 16GB Google Nexus 7 can be had for around P14k in the grey market so I think this is fair enough.

However, if you’re still wondering about the disparity between the local pricing and US pricing, Asus Philippines is bringing them here, not Google. The reason it’s cheaper in the US is because Google can earn things back through content purchases unlike in our country where Google Play Books, Play Music, and Play Video are off limits. Plus, there’s still the thing called “import tax”.

So if you want a 7-inch, 32GB Android Jelly Bean tablet powered by a quad-core NVIDIA Tegra 3 processor, the Php13,995 sounds like a fair deal. You can find the Google Nexus 7 in Asus Concept Stores and Asus authorized dealers and partners.
