Everyone’s favorite hedgehog is set to make a return in 2013, as game developer and publisher Sega recently announced that it will release several new Sonic titles in digital and retail form in 2013.
In an interview with UK based publication Toys ‘N’ Playthings, Sega’s head of brand licensing Sissel Henno confirmed that Sega plans to publish several new Sonic digital titles as well as a single boxed game in 2013.
When asked about the future and how he thinks Sonic license will grow over the next year or so, Henno replied that the company plans on really focusing on the toy distribution across Europe. Similarly, Sega will also be growing the apparel, publishing and stationary categories. We will have several new digital titles launching as well as a new boxed game, so there will be plenty of opportunities to link marketing campaigns across games and merchandise.
Earlier in the year, Sega made it clear that they intend to release more and more of their titles digitally and thus far they have release two titles namely Sonic 4 and Sonic Jump as digital offering. However, a new retail Sonic title is a very interesting prospect.
During the interview, Henno did not mention any details regarding the actual release date or the platforms for which the games are being developed for.
