The ABA Journal reports that an interview with University of Louisville law professor Russell Weaver outlines important considerations to be made with regard to office lottery pools, from which litigation has been stemming more recently.

A typical issue is that holders of the winning tickets claim they bought them for themselves rather than as part of an office pool.

Weaver advises the person running the lottery pool to photocopy the group’s tickets and distribute them to everyone participating in the pool before the drawing.

Given the enormous Powerball jackpot of recent weeks ($587.5M), and the number of people who play the lottery as jackpots increase (Powerball officials estimated they were selling 131,000 tickets per minute ahead of Wednesday night’s drawing), this is likely something we will see more of in the future.
