(Before It's News)

AMD derives its strength from the many datacenters that it has in place and the immense love for multi-core processors. No wonder many were surprised that AMD bought Piledriver architecture before the server room. But, this is now better with the availability of Opteron 6300 which is an upgrade of 6200.

Opteron 6300 uses the same energy as its predecessors and same sockets too. The difference is that gives better speed especially due to the new layout and instructions from Piledriver. The speed is 24% better in one performance test and 40% better in terms of watt which makes it a better deal for Intel’s Xeon. AMD also has several chips ranging from quad-core 3.5GHz to 16-core 2.8GHz for different independent tasks.

It is expected that Cray, Dell and HP will follow suit in improving their servers soon. For now, it is only hoped that Opteron maintains the success as it has displayed in previous tests.
