(Before It's News)

I know what you are thinking. Did I type that title right? I thought that same thing when I read the articles that led me to bring this topic to you guys. Here we are getting excited to get quad-core processors in our devices, when Intel is talking about 48-core processors in our phones and tablets. Here is quote about this certain topic:

If we’re going to have this technology in five to 10 years, we could finally do things that take way too much processing power today. This could really open up our concept of what is a computer… The phone would be smart enough to not just be a computer but it could be my computer.

That was said by Patrick Moorhead, an analyst with Moor Insights and Strategy. It is almost scary just how much these computers are growing in brain power. We  have not quite reached that Terminator or Matrix level yet, but when you talk about a device that you hold in one hand having 48 cores to bring you the information throughout the world, it seems to be too much.

Enric Herrero talked about how the processing works on a smartphone. The work is divided between the processor cores, but with the lack of resources in phones, the process tends to drag because each core has to share resources between each other in order to work properly. So basically what Intel wants to do is, utilize each core and manage them correctly so they will have all the resources they need. It makes sense, and we all dream about having a perfect smartphone or tablet experience where anything we want to look up, or games we want to play, run smooth and quickly on our devices.

So there you have it. Intel apparently working on 48-core processors. It begs to ask the questions: how many cores is too much? What would this do to battery life? Feel free to chime in on this topic below. If anything, we will not see any of these processors for the next decade. Technology moves at a crazy rate, but lets not get taken over by these computers just yet, okay Intel?
