(Before It's News)

At GS, we’re constantly on the go…all of the writers hold down full-time jobs and we’re almost always stuck in perpetual motion.  Because of our work lives and insatiable craving for technology, our mobile devices are drained from push messages, email syncing, status updating, checking in and the occasional GPS-ing.  Like you, we have car chargers for when we’re feeling low, but, in my case anyway, that doesn’t quite seem to be enough.  Fortunately, companies like Satechi are going full-speed ahead with products geared towards the mobile enthusiast, or “gadgeteur” if you will, and their Portable Energy Station should be one of the next few gadgets added to your collection.

Featuring 10,000 mAh of energy, you’ve easily got 4x charging for even the newest of iPhones as well as some spare energy left over for a quick pick-me-up late in the evening, if you need it.  For $59.99, you receive the energy station, USB cord and 6 interchangeable connectors for the various devices you’d need to charge.

Design

From the moment you look at it, there are some notable design cues from the iPhone & iPad lines, with the black look and band around the edges.  The Satechi Portable Energy Station isn’t a slim device, like the iPhone, however it’s certainly something that could easily fit inside the pack or satchel that you use for your devices.

Input & Output ports

USB Output: 5V2A & 5V1A

On the top of the device is a familiar bar-look that iPhone users are accustomed to.  There are five blue LED’s that serve as a batter indicator.

Performance

In my testing, I went through some fairly heavy gaming on my iPhone 5 and wore it down to 20% battery.  From there, I plugged it into the Satechi Energy station and continued the same type of usage.  With the onslaught of gaming and push notifications, I went from 20% charge to 100% charge in 2 hours and 15 minutes, and that was with moderate to heavy usage during the timeframe.

I proceeded to leave the Energy Station unplugged for the next few days, plugging my phone in as it got to 20% capacity and finally drained the charger after 4 iPhone charges and a couple hours with the iPad 3 plugged into it as well.

Buy or No Buy?

At $59.99, including the USB cord and adapters, and with 10,000 mAh of power, and with the performance I saw, I’d go with a resounding: BUY

Perhaps my only preference would be that the USB cord included with the device wasn’t one that required one of the adapters.  That said, at 5.5″ long and weighing in at only 5.93 oz, this is both a substantial enough gift to be wrapped or it could also double as a great stocking stuffer!

As always, thank you to Max Borges and Satechi for the review unit!
