Still Using A Boardroom Video Conference System? Upgrade To Desktop Video Conference (Research Report)
Having 5 or 10 people attending a video conference in your conference room is great, but I bet that often times there’s only 1 or 2 persons in your conference room using your video conference system. I also bet that your employees are not able to do video conferencing from their desktops.
While, most all notebooks have video cameras built in, making it easy for even the cheapest video conferencing solutions, many desktop systems are not video conference enabled.
You might want to seriously consider everyone of your employees to conduct video conferences from their desktops. There are so many low cost video conference options Skype, Google Hangout, Zoom.Us and many many others.
Logitech and Forrester recently release a report on this:
Logitech today announced the findings of a Forrester Consulting survey on the future of videoconferencing in the enterprise. Overall, the report finds enterprise videoconferencing is on the rise and adoption is moving beyond the boardroom to smaller screens such as PCs, smartphones, and tablets that workers use in their everyday jobs. Of the 50 videoconferencing decision-makers at U.S. enterprises surveyed, 56 percent cited saving money on travel as one of the most important reasons to videoconference, while 42 percent cited increased participation and engagement as an important reason for videoconferencing implementation.
According to the research, there are still barriers to videoconferencing that decision-makers need to account for when choosing solutions. These barriers include:
- Lack of availability
- High costs that make it hard to deploy videoconferencing widely
- Room-based videoconferencing solutions are often overbooked
- Employees are uncomfortable using videoconferencing
The report finds that in order for videoconferencing to see more widespread adoption, solutions must be scalable, affordable and easy-to-use and employees must be satisfied with the quality of the communications experience.
According to a report from Forrester Research in the first quarter of 2012, videoconferencing is still a high priority for U.S. enterprises, with one-third of U.S. enterprises expanding or upgrading videoconferencing deployments. The center of gravity in enterprise videoconferencing is moving from high-end in-room systems to smaller screens such as desktop PCs and smaller meeting rooms where most true collaboration takes place, according to the recent survey.
