Updated Reptile Tree
The large reptile tree is now up to 316 taxa, still growing and still virtually fully resolved (an issue developed around Colobomycter and Paraplacodus and probably for good reason!!). I don’t update the tree graphic with every new taxon because it’s a lot of work! But last night was a good time to update it.
Some of the recent additions include:
1. Feeserpeton – nests with Australothyris in the Millerettidae and Casesauria.
2. Romersicus - nests with Lanthanosuchus and Macroleter
3. L (Langobardisaurus?) rossi - nests with Homoeosaurus and Dalinghosaurus
4. Kyrgyzsaurus – nests with Cosesaurus and Sharovipteryx
5. Tchingisaurus - nests with Gekko
6. Tethysaurus - nests wtih Aigialosaurus.
7. Dinilysia – nests with Pachyrhachis.
8. Two specimens of Varanosaurus – nests between Elliotsmithia and Apsisaurus
9. Stenocybus – nests between Ophiacodon and Biarmosuchus
10. Largocephalosaurus – nests with Sinosaurosphargis
11. Qianxisaurus – nests between Pachypleurosaurus and Lariosaurus
12. Anningsaura – nests between Simosaurus and Pistosaurus
13. Tangasaurus - nests between Adelosaurus and Thadeosaurus
14. Pamelaria – nests with Protorosaurus
15. Diandongosuchus - nests with the parasuchians, Paleorhinus and Parasuchus
16. Gualosuchus – nests with Chanaresuchus.
Some of these are no brainers. Others were missed by their original authors by not including appropriate sisters and close kin candidates. Others were considered such ‘junk’ that they were unworthy of cladistic analysis.
If there’s any taxon out there that needs a nesting, let me know.
