Weave RSS Reader – Windows Phone App Review

This week saw the release of an update to Weave, a popular news-aggregating RSS feed application for Windows Phone 7, bumping up its version number to 4.0 in the process.

For those to whom Weave is new, upon opening up the application there are already 33 pre-loaded categories into which news has been sorted and it is easy to select the ones you are interested in such that only news for those categories will show up. Seles Games has pre-selected a sample of sources for each category (including 1800PocketPC and BestWP7Games under Windows Phone news) and this is easily manageable – there are several RSS feeds pre-configured, but adding more is just a few clicks more work and easy to do.

The previous version featured a sort of carousel eight Metro**-style tiles each representing an article from any of your chosen categories. That tiled look has now been extended to the rest of the app, in the buttons for app settings or the selection of four most-viewed categories which really does look good, and along with taking the phone’s theme colour for the tile colours, this helps unify the look of the app, as well as make it unmistakably Windows Phone.
