‘Ikaruga’ which got an overwhelming response after its launch first on Xbox Live in 2008 has moved on to the Android segment. Though ‘Ikaruga’ can be said to belong to earlier genre it still remains the most popular space shooters to date.
The game had an impact-rich launch way back in 2008 with the fancy HD effect and the Android launch heralds its entry into the portable device market.
In those earlier days when bullet hell shooters were predominant, it was ‘Ikaruga’ which was more appealing due to its intelligent approach to clearing a level. The other SHMUPS games right from ‘Cave’ needed exact ship placement and sharp reflexes. Whereas ‘Ikaruga’ required some intelligence on the user’s part due to its color coded ‘bullet eater’ system.
‘Ikaruga’ can be downloaded in Japan for 800 yen ($9.2). There is no announcement as of now about its availability in the US market. If you game mainly on the handsets then ‘Ikaruga’ is not a suitable download though it is one of the best games of that genre. A better recommendation would be the beautiful XBLA release for almost the same price.
‘Radiant Silvergun’ other favorite of creator Hiroshi Iuchi also had the same launch on XBLA around last year. This is a good watch for Android devices. His recent ‘Kokuga’ can be got for the Nintendo 3DS in Japan but the fate of a Western release is still unsure.
