Apple CEO Tim Cook said he’s eyeing bringing production back to the United States next year.
“Next year we are going to bring some production to the U.S. on the Mac,” he said. “We’ve been working on this for a long time, and we were getting closer to it. It will happen in 2013.”
“We’re really proud of it,” Cook added, pointing out that the engine for the iPhone and iPad is already made in the states, as well as the glass (Kentucky).
The investment in the move of some operations to the U.S. will be “over $100 million”
“This doesn’t mean that Apple will do it ourselves, but we’ll be working with people, and we’ll be investing our money,” Cook clarified.
Want China Times, citing China Economic Net, says that the newest iMac has a label that reads “Designed by Apple in California. Assembled in USA.” But most products are still made in China under notorious labor conditions.
