Just two days after a nasty little fake installer for OS X popped up, pushing for users to enter their SMS number and then get charged for bogus purchases, Apple has already mitigated its effectiveness. For users with automatic updates turned on in any version of OS X released since 2009′s Snow Leopard, the “Xprotect.plist” has been updated to incorporate a new listing protecting against the SMS targeting trojan pictured above.
For Apple, the two-day turnaround is actually impressive as traditionally, Apple has been slower at pushing updates for such things. As Macs grow in popularity and use base, however, expect the number of exploits to also grow as hackers turn their attention. And hopefully, along with the hackers, Apple also continues to follow with quick updates for exploits.
