To all intents and purposes, we are looking at an ultra book from Dell, but it is being marketed as a laptop and that is nothing to with it running on the Ubuntu operating system, as it seems that Intel do not require Windows for ultra books. This is however, a smart looking laptop, well it is after all the XPS 13, and it is merely running a different operating system. Other than that this laptop has a neat 13.3 inch display, powered by Intel Core i3 processors and video cards.

So apart from the operating system, which is getting all of the attention, what else does this XPS 13 have on offer? It comes with a 13.3 inch screen in HD at 720p with a 1366 × 768 of pixel resolutions and there is a built in 1.3 mega pixel web camera with dual array digital microphones. This laptop will be running on the latest UBUNTU Linux 12.04 Operating System and powered by the 3rd Generation Intel Core i7-3517U processor with a 4M Cache and up to 3.0 GHz.

There is support from the Intel QS67 Chipset and video graphics will be coming from the Intel HD 4000 Video Card. The memory is a useful 8 GB of DDR3L 1600 and there is up to 256 GB Solid State hard drive (SSD) available for storage. The essential networking features the Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6230 802.11 a/g/n with Bluetooth 3.0. Other features include the two super fast connecting USB 3.0 ports one with PowerShare, a mini Display Port, Headset Jack and High Definition Audio with Waves MaxxAudio.

This is a highly portable machine that measures up at 0.24 inch to 0.71 inch (H) x 12.4 inches (W) x 8.1 inches (D) and it weighs in at just 2.99 pounds with the 47 WHr battery 6-Cell Li-Polymer battery installed that Dell say will be good for up to 6 hours and 13 minutes of battery life. Dell have price the XPS 13 Developer Edition to start from $1450, which to some may appear a little high considering that it is running a free operating system!
