Word has it that Facebook will put an end to voting and will obtain feedback on future policy changes by some other means. As usual the news had mixed reactions. The vocal minority was all upset and wanted to preserve democracy on Facebook. Less than 30 percent of users even cared to vote. Nowhere near the majority vote required by entities for opinions to be influential.
This is why Facebook will not be using the voting device for policy shifts hereafter. In its place users will be given a feature that will enable them to beam questions to Chief Privacy Officer Erin Egan. And will this person actually have the time to go through all these? That is a moot point. Apart from that the shortage of votes also gives Facebook the possibility of combining data with Instagram and thereby realizing the possibility for targeted advertising to get into your Instagram feed. Now the privacy advocates will be up in arms, no doubt.
