IIT-Bombay spinoff InOpen Technologies recently collaborated with Google’s Edtech Team to organize ‘Google Apps for Education India Summit’. Held for 2 days at the American School of Bombay, the summit was first of its kind & meant to introduce Google Apps geared for education.
Google Apps is a collective effort of the search giant Google that aims to offer a plethora of internet driven apps for businesses. These cloud based apps run on most operating systems since they work on any internet browser. However, they perform their best on Google’s own Android & Chrome. India’s education is on the cusp of receiving heavy technological infusion from multiple vendors. Apart from Aakash II, multiple other companies are working on tablets & educational software that works on Android OS.
Cloud based education is not new. In fact global companies like Microsoft are already very active in this particular field. Additionally, students need real world & updated technology to stay ahead feels Suan Yeo, who heads Google Enterprise Education, “How we learned is not how our students learn. Thus it is important to “Teach with technology, not teach technology””.
Coincidentally, this ideology matches well with InOpen’s Computer Masti ideology based on the TPACK (Technological, Pedagogical, Content Knowledge) model which strictly operates on the FOSS (free and open source software) philosophy. Having access to technology is not the only aim, using it effectively, is feels Mr. Rupesh Kumar Shah, CEO and Co-Founder InOpen Technologies, “Technology is not the path, it’s just the enabler”.
The company is an IIT Bombay incubated Educational startup which was started 3 years ago in the IIT-B campus. The education centric companies strives to conceptualize, design & perfect products that impart knowledge. Many Government schools & state education departments have lauded the company’s efforts to sow the seed of learning through technology in India.
Have any of readers experienced learning through Google Apps. Please share your experience.
