(Before It's News)

Online TV service iStream & IndiaCast have signed an multi-year licensing deal to beam a bouquet of 20 channels across phones, tablets & other portable devices. IndiaCast, the joint venture between TV18 and Viacom18 will offer the content, while iStream will act as the gateway for distribution & management.

What will the audience receive?

Popular television channels like COLORS and MTV from the house of Viacom 18 & leading news channels like CNN IBN, CNBC TV18, CNBC Awaaz will be broadcast via internet. Additionally, other entertainment channels like History 18 from A&E 18 and the entire bouquet of regional channels from the ETV Group are also thrown in for good measure. The streaming company has chosen to have specialized ‘Landing Pages’ for each channel in order to highlight the most popular serials & shows. Besides, there is a large cache of over 200,000 clips of premium News Bulletins, TV Shows & Movies in five Indian languages from over 80 channels already available for consumption.

IndiaCast on the other hand is a specially formulated multi-platform ‘Content Asset Monetization’ entity. The firm is responsible for Domestic and International Channel Distribution, Placement Services and Content Syndication for TV18, Viacom18, A+E Networks, TV18 and the ETV channels. In simpler words, the content that was earlier meant for television only, will now be streamed live as well as on-demand. Furthermore owing to the extensive development exercise, the content will be accessible on multiple device; tablets, smartphones et al.

India’s online content consumption patterns are getting stronger. Net savvy smartphone welding youth is increasingly forgoing television in favor of smartphones. Internet consumption is already on the rise across channels. Under such favorable conditions it is a wise move to launch services that ride on such growth patterns. To promote the usage of such services should telecom companies listen to the public voice & offer cheaper, unlimited mobile broadband internet plans?
