Majority Of Indians Would Pay To Have An Ad-Free Online Experience: IPSOS

(Before It's News)

Online Ads have become a very common occurrence. In fact, all of our online sessions are strewn with some form of advertisements. While some are in the face & intrusive, others are subtle & come along as text & banners.

While many of us would think of advertising as an unavoidable eye-sore, a new survey by online market research company Ipsos has offered an interesting public opinion about online ads. According to the company about 60% of Indians would gladly pay to officially get rid of ads that hinder a smooth online experience. Online ads, in the form of banners, pop-ups, textual & visual graphics surely bother everyone at some point of time. Majority of us have quietly submitted ourselves to this phenomenon, just like we do when watching television.

However, what if there was an option to legally clean out the website & have just the content visible devoid of ads? Ads have always been the major revenue source of content generators. Even quality content needs the support of advertising. However, this new survey could open up a new form of income that could be a truly win-win situation for both the parties. While visitors could have a very streamlined & neat interface not marred by advertising, site-owners could get guaranteed income from a regular subscriber.

Ad agencies like Google Ad-sense & many others usually pay the site owners when ads are actually clicked or interacted with. Such Pay Per Click (PPC) advertisements would surely feel the loss of active viewership & hence would be the first to cry foul.

While the survey merely points out willingness to pay, so far, the quantum has not been revealed. Sites that offer quality content earn a hefty income from advertising. Will such sites let go of the same? Interestingly, there are few active internet forums that do offer such an alternative to pay a monthly subscription fee & get rid of advertisements.
