One recently there was a report which revealed that iPad’s dominant share in the global tablet market is diminishing all thanks to the plethora of Android powered tablets. There have been a number of hit Android powered tablets including but not limited to the Nexus 7, the Amazon Kindle Fire and the new Nexus 10. All of these products are giving iPad a run for its money and soon it looks like a new Nexus tablet might be giving the all new iPad mini a run for its money.
Rumor has it that a new Nexus 7 model is going to be released. This model will be substantially better than all of its predecessors. Moreover it will blast all competition out of the ballpark as this new Nexus 7 model is expected to feature 1GB of RAM and a microSD card slot for memory expansion. All this is expected to be offered at an unbelievable price of $99.
This rumor of a new Nexus 7 is based on GLBenchmark conducted on an unknown tablet carrying code name “ME172V.” Google partnered with ASUS to create the first ever Nexus 7 and it defies logic that this new $99 Nexus 7 will not be manufactured by ASUS. According to the benchmark readings this unreleased ASUS manufactured tablet touts a 7 inch display, 1GHz processor coupled with 1GB of RAM and an onboard memory of 8GB. Providing power to this arrangement is reportedly 4270mAh battery.
There has been talk in internet circles regarding a cheaper Nexus tablet. This new Nexus 7 model may be that, or if the rumors don’t turn out to be true then perhaps we might never be treated to a $99 tablet. According to rumors this tablet will be running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean, which is Google’s latest and greatest update to the Android mobile platform. Adoption numbers of this latest update are at an all time high.
If this tablet does materialize it could be harmful to iPad mini sales. Apple recently released its 7 inch tablet after stalling on it for over two years. The base iPad mini model costs $329. To put things in perspective, a Nexus tablet that matches iPad mini in terms of hardware specifications and also happens to be substantially cheap, could really hurt the sales of iPad mini. There is no word as to when this device will be announced to when it will be released to the public. For all we know, these dreams of a $99 Nexus 7 tablet running Android 4.1.1 Jelly Bean might never come true at all.
