Nokia Partners With China Mobile To Launch The First TD-SCDMA Windows Phone Device, The Lumia 920T.
China has gone their own way in the mobile world. Their network choices in terms of technology hasn’t really jived well with what most of the rest of the world has used over the years meaning slower adoption by phone manufacturers due to the added cost of developing specific phones just for their market. But times are a changing. Now, China is a hotbed of activity for smartphone manufacturers as well as the companies behind each respective platform like Apple, Google and Microsoft. There are many billions of dollars to be made in China, and they’re just getting started.
Today, Nokia announced that they are finally ready to embrace “the world’s largest operator” with the new Lumia 920T, the first TD-SCDMA Windows Phone device in China.
Nokia CEO, Stephan Elop, praised the new partnership, reiterating the growing demand for Lumia devices and looking forward to demand in China taking the platform (and Nokia’s hardware) further. Similarly, China Mobile President of Mobile Communications, Li Yue, said their close work with Nokia to produce the unique Lumia 920T is one of the reasons their TD technology has become so successful and that they (China Mobile) are one of the biggest carriers in the world.
The Lumia 920T will be identical to the international version spec-wise save for the obvious swap in cellular technology to support TD-SCDMA. (768 x 1280 4.5-inch display, 1 GB of RAM, dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon S4 processor + more.)
Look for the Lumia 920T to hit store shelves by “the end of the year” for RMB 4599 in black, white, yellow and red.
