NVIDIA’s quad-core Tegra 3 chipset is doing a great job at bringing mobile games on tablets and smartphones and the company is firing on all cylinders. Word on the street has it that the company is developing a new Tegra 4 processor, code named “Wayne” that works on a 4-Plus-1 Quad-Core “Eagle” CPU. This would indicate that it is supported by ARM’s Cortex A15 architecture, which was branded as Eagle.
This new processor is said to have a 72-core GPU, which is fantastic as it means that it can offer six times better graphics performance as compared with the Tegra 3 platform. Just think of the kind of games one will be able to play on Tegra 4 devices. Other features one has learned about include support for 4K video playback, display resolutions up to a super sharp 2,560 x 1,600-pixels and support for USB 3.0.
The bad news is that one is not at all sure of when the product will be ready for launch on the market. Hopefully more information will be forthcoming from the company at its press conference that is in the offing.
