When was the last time you went to a mobile services vendor and asked for a recharge? If you answer is a long time ago, then you are familiar with online recharge business. Both mobile phone and DTH recharges have seen activity in terms of growing online payment. Various sites like Rechargeitnow and Paytm operate in the business. Paytm recently launched another branch of its operation which deals with bus ticketing. Claiming the need to open such business branch as a natural extension of its current operations and commitment to customer service, Paytm seems rather confident with its new venture.
Ecommerce is laden with hustle bustle, more so since the internet revolution swept the Indian startup scene. Businesses and verticals are being launched every day. Those already having a good hold on the market are expanding and the ones that are new are bombarded with funding options. Some complications in terms of FDI allowance from the government were present but Indian borne online startups are scoring big when it comes to registering a sizable presence on the market. Indians, new to the comfort, ease and flexibility of the whole propaganda reap the benefits of it.
Paytm’s story is no different. Starting from a modest mobile recharge website to dolling out its own app to now opening a new business branch, paytm has been very strategic and focused on the aspect of growth. For the current online ticket operations, it has contacted 600 operators and would cover 10000 routes across India.
The online bus ticketing segment already has a huge player, Redbus which crossed the 1 crore tickets milestone. The market for online ticketing related to bus service is relatively very new but Paytm’s track record of rising popularity might just pull it ahead of its competition.
