Last month we at Clove were proud to celebrate 20 years in business and had a good look back at the progression of the product range that we’ve offered over the years. To cap it all off, we’re going to take one last trip down memory lane and show you how the Clove website has transformed since its conception.
When Clove first started in 1992, the commercial web as we know it had not yet launched (this didn’t happen until 1995), so it was in 1996 that the first ever Clove website went live. To put this into perspective, this was the same year that Google launched its first website, with Amazon having launched a year earlier. Some of today’s most popular websites such as Facebook, Twitter and YouTube didn’t launch until 2004 onwards.
Thanks to The Way Back Machine from the web archive.org (currently looking for donations to stay in action), we’re able to take a look back at a few snapshots of how the Clove website has changed over the years (note there are a few elements missing in some screenshots). Unfortunately we do not have access to the very first version of the site as this was hosted on a different domain for which there are now no records, but going by the first rendition below from 2000 you can imagine how basic the first ever Clove website would have been in 1996:
