(Before It's News)

South Korean mobile phone manufacturer, Samsung Mobiles has announced that it has sold about 10 million Galaxy devices in India since the brand launched in 2010. Samsung enjoys a leading market share (41.6%) in the smartphone segment in India due to their precise targeting of device to consumer segments.

The company has launched 13 Galaxy devices in the country whose prices range from Rs. 6790 to Rs. 39,990. That covers a large segment right from youth to senior professionals. Galaxy series models like the Samsung S3, S3 and the Note series have done well in the top tier smartphone category whereas the company’s recent Galaxy Y offering has had good penetration in the youth segment. The Galaxy series also includes 2 tablet offerings. Although the company did not give any individual model sales data, it is understood that their budget smartphones like Galaxy Y and Galaxy Ace have driven the numbers forward.

Asim Warsi, VP of Mobile for Samsung India said as much during the announcement.

“Innovative devices like the Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy SII and SIII, Galaxy Note, Galaxy Note 2 and Galaxy Y have caught the imagination of customers and helped us democratise the smartphone experience in the Indian market.”

We wrote about how Samsung has recently taken the crown of the biggest Global phone manufacturer after Nokia’s 14 year run. They also have a good standing in the Indian market. A recent Cybermedia report titled India Mobile Handset Review says that some 102.43 million mobile phone units were sold during January-June 2012.

Samsung has been pushing forward with its Android powered devices. They recently launched the Galaxy Camera, an Android powered digital camera. I believe that Samsung has capitalized the most on Android’s open ecosystem. We will have to wait to see what other devices the company released in 2013.
