Youtube, Yahoo, BigFlix are some of the most widely-used video streaming platforms. While all these platforms were initially launched on the web, they have been successfully modified and adopted to the mobile/tablet mediums. In fact, only recently BigFlix upgraded its UI so that members can start watching a movie from where they have paused it, on any device. On the other hand, Vuclip is a mobile based video streaming app. It allows users to search for videos, has channels called Bollywood Masala, South Sizzlers, Devotional, among others and has even rolled out a mobile video portal called ‘Mira’ that caters specifically to women.
Now, Vuclip has come up with a solution that allows people with a slow internet connection to watch videos on the go. Targeting people who don’t use smartphones because of financial constraints or personal choices and who live in countries that don’t offer high-speed mobile internet, Vuclip will showcase compressed videos that work well with ‘regular’ devices and on any networks.
Speaking on the occasion, Nickhil Jakatdar, CEO of Vuclip said, “We understand that the ‘world is not flat,’ so not every mobile phone user can afford a high-end smartphone or even desires one. But everyone enjoys watching videos. The bandwidth for cellphones in emerging markets is limited; it may be 2G- 3G. We are sensitive to this limitation and ensure that customers are able to watch videos regardless of this.” Started five years ago, Vuclip has received massive funding at regular intervals; in series C funding it secured $8 million and in series D funding it got $13 million.
The company already has 45 million monthly users and with this new service, it is sure to garner more. India is among the top three fastest growing internet markets in the world and everything is going mobile in the country – be it banking services or even buying gold. Therefore, a video viewing service that is designed keeping our not-so-good mobile internet connection in mind is bound to do well. Wouldn’t you agree?
