Google released on Monday a new app that lets iPhone and iPod touch users record and upload YouTube videos in as little as three clicks.

The standalone iOS app, dubbed “YouTube Capture,” allows users to simultaneously post their videos to YouTube, Google+, Facebook and Twitter, or upload them privately, said Google, which owns YouTube.

“YouTube Capture is ready to record as soon as you open it. When you’re done filming, write a caption, select which networks you want to share to, and hit Share,” Google said in its announcement, which included a brief demonstration video.

“Even if you minimize the app, the video will keep uploading in the background.”

The app also lets users control who can watch their video. When set to ‘private’, only the user can see the video. An ‘unlisted’ setting allows only those with a link to the video to view it, while a ‘public’ setting makes it available to anyone, Google said.

YouTube Capture offers advanced features as well, such as the ability to perform color correction and stabilization, edit video length and add music.

Another important feature is the app’s “landscape lock reminder,” which lets users know whether their videos will look better if shot in landscape mode – something that could reduce the number of videos inadvertently filmed in portrait mode.

“YouTube Capture will remind you to rotate your phone to a horizontal position for filming, so your videos look high-quality and free of Vertical Video Syndrome,” Google said.

YouTube Capture is available now on the App Store.

Google said it plans to bring the app to Android at some point in the future.
