Nexus 10 vs iPad 4Nexus 10 is slowly proving it’s no pushover in the tablet market, but could Google’s latest and greatest be a real threat to the almighty iPad? Let’s line up the Nexus and iPad specs to see how they compare respectively when it comes to features and functionality.

Nexus Advantages
In a head-to-head matchup, we were able to identify three areas where Nexus takes an advantage over the iPad: size, resolution, and price.
Size
We’ve watched the evolution of the computing machine go from the size of a large room to a bulky piece of furniture, and shrink their way to the uber portable devices of today. This evolution signifies a very important piece of consumer tendencies – we want things efficiently small. And Nexus has met the challenge with grace. The screen is just ever-so slightly bigger than iPad, yet sacrifices nothing in terms of portable size. In fact, Nexus’ featherweight champ is more than an ounce lighter than the iPad 4.
Resolution
Nexus’ incredibly efficient 2560 x 1600 high-res screen features clarity that’s sharp and lifelike. It’s a notion some iPad lovers may squawk at, claiming the differential is too small to notice, but we respectfully disagree. The 300 ppi (compared to iPad’s 264) alone adds an elemental touch that makes it unquestionably better, however slight.
Price
A $100 extra spend is tough to justify for the iPad, especially when Nexus seems to carry small but undeniable advantages. Not to mention, the ongoing costs involved with Apple apps far exceeds that of Google Play’s primarily free app platform.

iPad’s Advantages
There are a few areas where Apple still has a slight edge, although they continue to be largely subjective.
Connectivity
Unlike Nexus, iPad offers both Wi-Fi and cellular connectivity options. While there is a cost differential between the two, there is still the option – and it’s one that Nexus doesn’t offer.
App Store
Another area where Apple may outrank Google by some standards is in their app store. There is something to be said for volume, and while only slight, Apple takes the lead here, boasting more than 700,000 apps on their network. We only offer this point as a pseudo-advantage, however, and here’s why: Google is catching up, and fast. They too offer close to 700,000 apps through the Google Play store, but with one key difference: most of them of free.

Where They Tie
Overall, iPad and Nexus are very comparable. The cameras, browsers, and operating systems for both work quickly and swiftly without issue.

While the Nexus seems to have a few more advantages comparably, the points all fairly subjective. If choosing between the two, buying on price could leave some buyers persuaded by the $100 discount with Nexus. However, brand loyalty could sway Apple lovers the other direction. If price is a factor for you, you’ll likely find Nexus 10 to be your best option. If it’s not, consider going with the operating system you’re already used to. If Android is what you’ve been using, chances are you’ll find the Nexus tablet more comfortable right out of the gate, and vice versa for the iPad.

Where to Find the Nexus 10 and iPad 4
The Nexus 10 starts at $399 retail for the 16GB model (the 32GB version starts at $499) and the iPad starts at $499. However, there may be other options for finding both the Nexus 10 and the iPad for less than retail costs, namely through online shopping sites like HappyBidDay.
