(Before It's News)

Applied Mobile Labs (AML), which was until quite recently, known as Voicetap Technologies has come up with an interesting m-education deployment concept. In order to offer conversational English speaking courses, the company has launched ‘English on Mobile’.

The most interesting aspect of the B2C product is that it does not require the users’ handset to have any special OS or extra hardware capabilities. The pathway being a simple GSM phone call, subscribers can use any handset to avail the package & start learning. The same is currently available for Rs. 799 (US$ 15). Within this amount the users will get the entire three-segment course.

The company has additionally built in a proficiency evaluation system, wherein it judges the skill level & accordingly chalks out the course. The three levels are beginner, intermediate and advanced. However, upon further digging, we came to know they were referred to as ‘Essential English’, ‘Pronunciation’ & ‘English for Work’. Apart from the voice calls, AML will also send across daily SMS tips & interactive audio based tests. Since nothing can beat an interactive session, the program will also offer live practice and a chat with counselors on call as well as SMS using their own mobile handsets.

AML or Voicetap Technologies has always been known to play it safe & tie-up with prominent mobile service providers to introduce their products as Mobile Value Added Services (M-VAS). This maybe the first instance the company has decided to go solo & operator agnostic. But, by an interesting twist within the conditions, it has ensured the telcos are happy too. The entire course is supposedly about 900 minutes long. Out of this, 300 minutes can be availed by giving a ‘Missed Call’ to 09223405555. The rest will have to be accessed by giving a call & paying standard call rates.

Education has received some interesting allies last year. From tablets to TVs, this sector is receiving some much needed attention. Let’s see how successful this endeavor is.
