Many have called Quora the most important hub for a knowledge seeker. For those of you who haven’t come across it yet, Quora is a sort of a social network which thrives on users asking questions and other users answering them. I remember signing up for it when it came out of beta but I lost interest because of the fact that I couldn’t answer many questions due to paucity of time. My feeling must be singular because the service is thriving and how! Once in awhile I check in on the service and find that it has indeed become the go-to place for people to help other curious people by giving relevant answers to their questions.
The site has Reddit-like Upvote feature in addition to other social network trappings like following people and topics. The site shows no sign of impending monetization and this has become one of the main questions for analysts who watch this startup. It is extremely well funded, having picked up $50 million last May from Peter Thiel and Adam D’angelo (Quora’s founder). The best part of Quora is that many of prominent people in tech world use the website to answer people’s questions. Indians are using Quora quite a bit since I first joined it.
For those of you who like reading eBooks, Quora has now made available the best of Quora’s content from 2010 to 2012 in the form of an eBook. The book has the best questions and answers on the website. This was probably calculated by upvotes and followers on that particular questions. The best part is that it is freely available to anyone to download. The questions in the book range from ‘How do Supermarkets dispose their food?’ to ‘What are some stupid things that smart people do?’. If you are looking for a light yet informative read which you can follow at your own pace, then this book is for you. As you can see the whole book is crowd-sourced and it has perspectives from many people all over the world. I have downloaded it and will be putting on my reading list. You should do the same!
