Apple released a statement describing its latest effort in fighting against the underage labor. Apple maintains strict policies on underage labor issue in the factories affiliated, all around the world. But one of its partners didn’t qualify.
Cupertino found the Guangdong Real Faith Pingzhou Electronics (PZ) guilty of employing underage workers and the tech giant didn’t hesitate to take action.
Apple said that the auditors found 74 workers aged below 16, which is a serious violation of the international labor law and officials terminated the relationship immediately.
Apple also held the recruiting agency (Shenzhen Quanshun Human Resources) responsible for sending under aged workers to the factory. The agency was accused of forging age verification papers that allowed the young people to work at the PZ plant. Apple alerted the provincial government of such activities. Authority fined the recruiting agency and its license was cancelled. The children returned to their parents safely and PZ paid the expense.
In recent years, Apple has taken a strong stand against under age labor problem. The company ran 393 audits through its supply chain last year alone.
Recently, Apple allowed a Fair Labor Association (FLA) inspection in its overseas factories and the CEO, Tim Cook also made several visits to ensure fair work period and proper wage.
