WeChat Claims To Garner 300 Million User Mark. Launches BlackBerry Version

(Before It's News)

Tencent’s mobile communication application WeChat has reported surpass the 300 Million user mark. Within a short span of 2 years, the Chinese company’s application has managed to gain significant traction & to commemorate the occasion, it has also launched a BlackBerry compatible version. Launched a few months ago in India, the app works on iOS & Android.

WeChat offers the internet pathway to convey messages. While many other messaging apps deploy the same technique, WeChat’s adoption is variant. Its earlier milestone of 200 Million was achieved within 6 months & took merely 4 months to add another Million users.

What is the reason behind the popularity?

WeChat, having originated in China, enjoys a virtually monopolistic position. Coupled with Twitter’s mirror image for China, Sina Weibo, a micro-blogging site, both have enjoyed a cult status. In India, WeChat was used in promotional activities of a feature film & it also offers Video Chat. If that’s not all WeChat had recently bundled Hindi Language support too  & has rolled out  a JAVA based version which can run on Basic phones & its adoption will grow even higher.

WeChat’s BlackBerry App launch is surely a game-changer. So far, besides BBM, WhatsApp was the only third party instant messaging platform available for Blackberry users.

WeChat should significantly alter the dynamics & thanks to its strong user-base, WhatsApp will have to work harder towards adding newer features. As if on a preemptive inclination, eBuddy recently confirmed it was working on a unique VoIP enhancement for its application.

Perhaps we should have sensed the launch of BlackBerry App. WeChat had, quite recently launched QR Codes to identify users & add them in a group. BlackBerry, has for long, been famous to make significant use of QR codes in almost all its content to simplify discovery & sharing. Despite the fanfare, rivals like Nimbuzz is targeting more than 400 Million users within this year. Hence it will be interesting to see what promotional activities these messaging companies employ & which new innovative features they manage to include. What new features can our readers suggest?
