The list of high profiled firms breached by hackers is expanding rapidly. The latest entry is Apple, marking a rare incident for the tech giant. Attack on Apple comes within a very short period after Facebook was targeted and breached. Apple stated that they too experienced a breach with same patterns as Facebook. Apple also reported no data altered or stolen.
Apple identified multiple Mac systems infected by a malware disguised as a browser plug-in by Java, the same way Facebook was hacked. This malware is gaining access through certain apps developer websites.
This method is being adopted for months for breaching high-end companies. A handful of Mac devices were compromised and the infected systems have been cut off of the network. Law enforcement was reported immediately and Apple is working on the problem.
Because of the OS X Lion, Apple has been shipping Mac units without Java installed. Also, under a new security protocol OS X Lion automatically shuts down Java if the software goes unused for at least 35 days.
To protect other Mac users from further risks, Apple released a software update containing an automatic Java malware removal software, equipped to check Macs for the malware and remove it if found.
