Comcast on Tuesday purchased General Electric’s 49% stake in NBC Universal for $16.7 billion, making Comcast the full owner of the media giant.
The cable firm originally bought its 51% stake in NBC Universal in December 2009 for $6.5 billion in cash. Under the deal announced Tuesday, Comcast will also buy GE’s remaining NBC Universal properties, including 30 Rockefeller Plaza and CNBC’s headquarters in Englewood Cliffs, N.J. The transaction is expected to close by the end of the quarter, pending regulatory approval.
