It is interesting to note that most of the popular Internet brands in the country happen to be global ones. The Indian ones come in later. Sify, Ibibo, OLX, Rediff, Myntra, Jabong and Flipkart come in later. There are many sub-categories where different Internet brands come on top. Naukri leads in Internet services, Youtube in online sharing, eBay in online shopping, Facebook in social networking and Google in Internet tools. However, there have been improvements overall as the number brands being added to the trust report has increased from 14 in 2012 to 25 this year.

N Chandramouli, CEO of Trust Research Advisory spoke about the results of the report,

“Two reasons online brands rely significantly on trust more than any other: the exchanges are without any physical interface, and the online world is cluttered with choices that make loyalty ephemeral. With most of the new brands entering the most trusted list this year being from online shopping or internet services, there will be no stopping this sub-category from seeing accelerated growth over the next 12 months.”

Trust in an Internet brand is an important parameter to judge the inroads its service can make into the Indian consumer space. Most online services require a user’s personal and financial data which might not be a very comforting thing and hence trust dictates how many users could look at using your service. This requires a good track record and an excellent value proposition for users.
